Some time ago, I received the following appeal from a friend:
Would you have time to talk with my daughter? I stayed up till 3:00 this morning with her discussing whether she is saved or not. This has been a recurring talk for years, and I have nothing left to tell her. I thought you might have some counsel for her. Thank you!

The older I become, the more I realize that the very thing we were created for is the very thing our enemy will try very hard to thwart. John 10:10 reminds us, “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” If a life verse is meant to give life, then the enemy will try to steal it! Several weeks ago my three-year-old, Eli, came home from church brokenhearted. After several moments of crying we finally pried out what was troubling him. “I want . . .” sob, sob, “Jesus to give me,” sob, sob, “my heart back” he wailed.
It seems that someone at church had asked Eli about giving his heart to Jesus. Our very literal three-year-old was crushed by the thought that Jesus had taken his heart. He didn’t understand what Jesus was going to do with his heart, and he wasn’t quite sure how he was going to function without it. Continue reading →
